Chapter 6: Dark Prophecy

Hidden in Egwene's room in the women's apartments, Rand wakes from a nightmare of Ba'alzamon to find Nynaeve sitting up beside him. She tells him the keep's women have been quietly searching the halls for something all evening. Rattled, Rand names the Dark One aloud and feels the room lurch around him.

Alarm bells ring out. Rand grabs his sword and runs for the dungeon, sure that the trouble must be aimed at him and afraid Egwene is in danger with Fain. Trollocs and a Myrddraal are loose inside Fal Dara; Ingtar cuts him off and takes the Fade himself.

In the dungeon Rand finds the guards butchered and their pieces strewn through the straw, the walls scrawled in blood with Trolloc script and a message for him: WE WILL MEET AGAIN ON TOMAN HEAD. Fain's cell stands open. Egwene and Mat lie unconscious nearby, and the ruby-hilted dagger Mat carried out of Shadar Logoth is gone.

Liandrin arrives and tries to force answers from Rand with the Power until Moiraine stops her. Moiraine sees that Egwene only needs sleep but sends Mat to the Amyrlin for Healing. Ingtar brings the worst news: the Horn of Valere has been taken from the strongroom along with the dagger, carried out through a Dog Gate opened from inside by a Darkfriend.
