Chapter 4: Summoned

In her rooms in Fal Dara, Moiraine dresses in her blue-fringed Aes Sedai shawl for an audience with the Amyrlin. Anaiya of the Blue and Liandrin of the Red come to fetch her—Anaiya warm, Liandrin cold and suspicious of why Moiraine has warded her chamber.

On the walk, Anaiya gives the news. Three new false Dragons have risen at once, in Saldaea, Murandy, and Tear; only the Saldaean can channel. The Great Hunt of the Horn has been called in Illian for the first time in four hundred years. Caemlyn's riots have eased but Morgase's throne is shaky, and there are faint rumors of fighting on Almoth Plain and Toman Head.

Alone with Moiraine, the Amyrlin reveals that Elaida has come to Tar Valon with Elayne and Gawyn. Elayne's potential is the greatest in centuries, and the Red Ajah has gained standing in the Hall for finding her. Elaida has also denounced Moiraine to the Hall for spiriting away a ta'veren youth more dangerous than any man since Artur Hawkwing. The Hall, with Green sisters joining the Reds against their old Blue allies, proposed Moiraine be sent into retreat under Red Ajah custody.

The Amyrlin dismisses Leane, shields the room, and embraces Moiraine as the old novice friend she once was. If anyone learns what they are planning, both will be stilled.
