Chapter 24: New Friends and Old Enemies

Egwene's first morning as a novice at the White Tower begins with Elayne Trakand assigned to guide her—and both girls are delighted to discover they can see saidar glowing around each other for the first time. Elayne reveals she is the Daughter-Heir of Andor who met Rand in Caemlyn, and warns that Elaida has been searching for him.

In the Tower garden they encounter the gentled Logain—hollow-eyed and bitter—then meet Min, brought to the Tower to be studied for her ability to see auras and images around people, and Gawyn and Galad, who are training with the Warders.

When Elaida arrives and privately questions Min about Rand and Moiraine, Min lies to the Aes Sedai's face to protect him. The three women—Egwene, Elayne, and Min—form a bond of friendship and vow to let no man drive them apart.
