Chapter 2: The Welcome

Rand hurries through Fal Dara keep as news of the Amyrlin Seat's arrival sets the fortress buzzing. Servants replace his old clothes with fine new garments including a cloak embroidered with the Dragon's sigil.

In the crowded outer courtyard, Rand watches the formal Welcome ceremony: Lord Agelmar receives the Amyrlin Seat, a dark-haired, ageless woman accompanied by fourteen Aes Sedai and their Warders. Her gaze sweeps the crowd and Rand flinches when it crosses him, then slips away toward the stables to flee.

Head groom Tema tells him all gates have been sealed—the order came down only moments ago. As bells ring announcing the Welcome is finished, Rand realizes the Amyrlin Seat will be sending for him now.
