Chapter 2: The Welcome

Rand returns to his room in Fal Dara to find women clearing out his old clothes on Moiraine's orders, replacing them with a wardrobe of fine garments. Among the new cloaks is one embroidered on the breast with the sigil of the Dragon. Rand is sure Moiraine had it made to expose him and resolves to leave the keep at once.

Crossing the outer courtyard with his belongings, he watches the formal Welcome: Lord Agelmar receives the Amyrlin Seat, who has come to Fal Dara with a dozen Aes Sedai and their Warders. Her gaze passes over the crowd, and Rand feels it touch him before moving on.

He slips away to the stables, but the head groom Tema tells him Lord Agelmar has sealed every gate and forbidden any horse from leaving. The bells ring out the end of the Welcome, and Rand understands the Amyrlin will be sending for him.
