Chapter 19: Beneath the Dagger
Camped on the slopes of Kinslayer's Dagger, Rand wakes to find Selene at his saddlebags in the night—she claims she only wanted a shirt to wear. When Hurin spots a hidden campfire in the hills below, Rand confirms it must be Fain's band.
Rand and Loial slip into the camp under cover of darkness to steal back the Horn of Valere. They find the golden chest with Mat's ruby-hilted dagger lying on its lid; Rand takes the dagger and Loial carries the chest while Rand fights off Trollocs using sword forms, resisting saidin's insistent pull.
Back at camp, Selene opens the chest by pressing hidden mechanisms in its traceries, then reads its Old Tongue inscription aloud: 'The grave is no bar to my call.' Rand insists on taking the Horn to Lord Agelmar in Shienar, but Selene argues that Fain will pursue them north—the safer path is south to Cairhien—and Rand places the dagger inside the chest and reluctantly agrees.
