Chapter 14: Wolfbrother

With Rand, Loial, and Hurin vanished overnight and Uno unable to find a single track, Ingtar's hunt is stalled. Without Hurin's nose he has no way to follow the Darkfriends.

Perrin, who has been running from his ability ever since Elyas introduced him to it, finally reaches out and touches the minds of a nearby wolf pack. They know him already, by a name he did not realise they had given him: Young Bull. They confirm the Darkfriends and Trollocs went south, and they show him images of the villagers from the abandoned village butchered and left to the vultures.

Perrin tells Ingtar the truth. Ingtar accepts it without flinching and tells the Shienarans that Perrin shares Hurin's sniffer talent, a story most of them swallow easily enough.

As the column rides south, Verin catches up alone, sent by Moiraine. She is unsettled to learn that Rand disappeared without a trace, and rides beside Ingtar questioning him in low tones about everything Rand said and did. Mat mutters to Perrin that it is Rand she is after, not the Horn.
