Chapter 11: Glimmers of the Pattern
The Shienarans make camp south of the Erinin. Ingtar gives Rand a canvas bundle from Moiraine and tells him that, by Lord Agelmar's order, he is now Ingtar's second. If Ingtar falls, the lances follow Rand.
Alone in the trees, Rand opens the bundle and finds the Dragon Banner of Lews Therin Telamon. Mat and Perrin follow him in. Cornered, Rand admits he can channel. Mat decides to sleep as far from him as possible. Perrin tells him to burn the banner and run, then concedes that sometimes a man cannot.
Farther south, Padan Fain camps with his Darkfriends and Trollocs. Whatever he brought out of Shadar Logoth has remade him. The Myrddraal who once drove him north toward Shayol Ghul is gone, nailed to a village door by Fain's own hand, and the Trollocs now flinch from him. He guards the stolen Horn and the ruby-hilted dagger, orders the captured villagers killed and left as a marker for the hunt behind him, and turns his thoughts to Toman Head, where he means to finish Rand at last.
