Chapter 44: The Dark Along the Ways

The party departs The Queen's Blessing before dawn through a hidden passage in Master Gill's stable. Loial guides them through the dark streets of Caemlyn to a shuttered shop, beneath which the ancient Waygate lies buried—all that remains of the Ogier grove that once stood here.

Moiraine opens the gate using the leaf of Avendesora, the Tree of Life, and the group enters the Ways—a vast, lightless void where time moves faster and their lanterns barely hold back the pressing darkness.

Loial navigates by reading Ogier script on stone Guidings, leading them across pitted bridges and up spiraling ramps between Islands, but after hours of travel they find a bridge that ends in a jagged gap.
