Rand and Mat arrive in Caemlyn. They find The Queen's Blessing inn, where innkeeper Basel Gill recognizes Thom's flute and cloak and gives them beds and food for the sake of his old friend.

Gill reveals Thom was once Court-bard of Caemlyn and close to Queen Morgase, but fell from favor after meddling in his nephew's trouble with the Aes Sedai. Gill warns them to mention neither Thom nor their Aes Sedai connections publicly.
