Rand and Mat flee Four Kings in the storm. Ba'alzamon visits Rand in a dream, destroying Gode and marking Rand's face with fire.

A young Darkfriend named Paitr approaches them in Market Sheran—Rand punches him and they flee. Rand then falls dangerously ill with fever.

A well-dressed woman lunges at Mat with a dagger that chars wood on contact, but Mat puts the Shadar Logoth blade to her throat. She warns a Myrddraal is coming, and they escape at dawn in Kinch's cart.
