Chapter 30: Children of Shadow
Perrin struggles with his hatred of the axe and what he might be willing to do with it, but Elyas counsels him to keep it—as long as he hates using it, he will use it wisely. A wolf sending warns of approaching horsemen, and Elyas vanishes into the night with the wolves while Perrin and Egwene hide beneath the stone fingers of Artur Hawkwing's fallen hand.
The Children of the Light find them, and when a Whitecloak levels his lance at Perrin, the wolf Hopper leaps to his defense and is killed. Perrin flies into a berserker rage and kills two Whitecloaks before being knocked unconscious.
He and Egwene wake as prisoners of Lord Captain Geofram Bornhald, who plans to take them to Amador for judgment—and tells Perrin that a gibbet awaits him for killing two of the Children.
