Chapter 21: Listen to the Wind

Nynaeve wakes alone on the banks of the River Arinelle after the flight from Shadar Logoth. Tracking downriver, she finds Moiraine and Lan camped by the water. Lan reports that nearly a thousand Trollocs took part in the hunt—far more than should be possible so far south—and all have vanished, along with their dead. Moiraine senses that one of the boys is across the river and alive, while two others went south and have lost the coins she gave them.

When Nynaeve confronts her, Moiraine reveals that Nynaeve can channel the One Power—her abilities to listen to the wind, heal, and predict weather all stem from unconsciously touching the True Source. She describes how Nynaeve once Healed Egwene of breakbone fever as an apprentice, and warns that women with the inborn ability to channel will die without training. Nynaeve reluctantly accepts the truth and joins them heading south to find the missing companions.
