Chapter 17: Watchers and Hunters

Thom performs tales of the Hunt for the Horn in the Stag and Lion's common room, followed by music and dancing. Rand dances with Nynaeve, Moiraine, and Egwene, while a scar-faced man—a Whitecloak spy—watches him intently.

Later, a Fade confronts Rand alone in the hallway, raising its black blade to strike before stopping and declaring 'You belong to the Great Lord of the Dark.' Lan's arrival drives it off.

The party flees Baerlon immediately, but at the Caemlyn Gate, Lord Bornhald and four other Whitecloaks try to arrest them as Darkfriends. Moiraine uses the One Power to appear as a towering giant wreathed in shadow, melting Bornhald's sword when he attacks her. They escape onto the Caemlyn Road, and looking back, see flames rising over Baerlon—the Stag and Lion is burning.
