Chapter 14: The Stag and Lion

The party reaches the Stag and Lion in Baerlon, where Master Fitch finds them rooms in a town crowded with miners come down from the mountains. Moiraine asks the innkeeper after someone named Min, and the Warder vanishes into the common room to gather news.

In the bathhouse, Mat almost blurts the word Trollocs to the attendant. Lan returns in time to cut him off, and warns the Two Rivers boys that mentioning Trollocs anywhere near the Children of the Light is as good as naming themselves Darkfriends. Trust no one until Tar Valon.

Over dinner Lan reports that the false Dragon, Logain, won his battle in Ghealdan. The fate of the Aes Sedai sent against him is unknown. The Whitecloaks here are too busy harassing the Governor to notice the party, so they will stay two nights.

That night Rand dreams of a stone room with an impossible sky, and a well-dressed man whose eyes and mouth open onto furnace flames. He names himself Ba'alzamon. He claims he was never bound, that he stood at Lews Therin's shoulder when he killed his family, and that Rand's parents were chosen by the White Tower like breeding stock. The Aes Sedai will use him to death, as they used Logain and others before. Rand wakes shaking.
