Chapter 11: The Road to Taren Ferry

The party races north through the night, passing Watch Hill without stopping. When the exhausted horses begin to flag, Moiraine uses the One Power to restore their strength—though Lan notes she cannot do the same for herself. The Draghkar screams overhead, tracking them for the Myrddraal. Moiraine summons a thick fog to hide them, and they ride blindly through the gray murk for hours.

At last they reach Taren Ferry, a village of tall houses built on high foundations against the river's spring floods. Lan wakes Master Hightower, the ferryman, and pays him in gold to take them across immediately despite the darkness and fog.
