Chapter 10: Leavetaking
In the inn's stable, Rand, Mat, and Perrin meet Lan to leave with the horses he has gathered. Perrin carries an axe with a half-moon blade and curved spike, made by Master Luhhan. Mat and Perrin only left notes for their families, but Rand told his father he was going.
Egwene slips into the stable with a bundle, having pieced their plan together from Mat sneaking about and Lan buying horses. She refuses to be left behind. Moiraine agrees over Lan's objection, calling it part of the Pattern. Thom Merrilin then climbs down from the hayloft and invites himself along, preferring company to a Trolloc cookpot.
Egwene takes the shaggy farm mare Bela. The party slips out of Emond's Field by fording the Winespring Water, avoiding the village's hastily mustered patrols. North of the village, Rand sees a winged shape sweep across the moon. Lan names it a Draghkar, a thing made in the war that ended the Age of Legends. The Myrddraal will soon know where they are, so the party takes the road and gallops for Taren Ferry.
